Wills - Making a will
Making a Will allows you to take control:
- You decide exactly who should benefit from your estate and in what way
- You can appoint guardians to look after your children and make known any wishes you have regarding their education and religious upbringing
- You can make appropriate tax provisions
- You can protect your partner which is particularly important if you are not married because unmarried partners cannot inherit from each other without a will
- You can protect your business and farm assets
- You decide who should take charge of your estate on death
- You can make provision for a dependant who is unable to care for themselves
- You can protect your home from care home fees with a protective property trust
- You can include your funeral arrangements
And if you don't have a will?
Many people wrongly believe that on their death everything will pass to their spouse. This is not necessarily the case. If you die without a will and have no family your estate will go to the Government.
