It is difficult to overestimate the importance of making a will.  Making a will is not a nicety - it's a must.

A will ensures that your estate (which includes your house, cash and savings, personal effects and any insurance policies/pensions) is dealt with in exactly the way you wish. If you die without making a will your estate will be distributed according to the law rather than your wishes. This could mean that your partner receives less, or in some cases nothing and that money goes to family members who may not need it and whom you would not necessarily have wanted to benefit.
