Shattered Lives initiative underway in Scotland- 22/04/2008[top]
The Health and Safety Executive's Shattered Lives campaign is in full swing north of the border, as employers and employees across a number of industries are given guidance and support in making strides to prevent injuries resulting from slips, trips and falls.
According to HSE figures, in Scotland last year there were 4,081 people injured as a result of slips, trips and falls in the workplace, with five fatalities.
Accidents during the 12-month period are thought to have cost the country over £67 million.
The HSE's Scotland director Stewart Campbell commented: "Slips, trips and falls also shatter businesses through costs such as employee absence, sick pay and reduced productivity.
"Irrespective of the size of the business and the job that you do, it could happen to you."
A promotional campaign poster used in Scotland features cartoon character Homer Simpson slipping on a spillage at the nuclear power plant where he works in the Simpsons comedy series.
