What is Dermatitis?
Dermatitis is a skin condition which is caused by exposure to irritants at work.
Employers have a duty of care to protect all employees and are legally obliged to provide employees with appropriate training and protective equipment where the risk or exposure to hazardous materials could put them at risk of Dermatitis.
If you worked with hazardous substances and your employers did not provide the following you may be eligible to claim compensation:
- protective clothing to protect hands and arms when coming into contact with hazardous substances
- washing facilities in the event of exposure to hazardous substances
- barrier creams
- adequate training
- regular skin checks

What are the symptoms?
Dermatitis occurs as a result of exposure to hazardous substances and can be bad enough to keep you off work and serious enough to force you to change jobs. Signs are:
- redness
- itching
- scaling
- blistering all over the body
- the skin cracking and bleeding
