Woman gets compensation for surgery stroke- 18/07/2008[top]

A woman who claims to have suffered a stroke under a plastic surgeons knife is to receive a "significant, six-figure" compensation payout.

Diane Newbould, of Sheffield, sued celebrity plastic surgeon Jan Stanek and an anaesthetist, claiming their negligence left her disabled for life.

She went in for a facelift and liposuction operation at a private London hospital in January 2002 with the famous surgeon, who has appeared on Channel Four show 10 Years Younger.

The settlement, which includes the payout Ms Newbould's counsel called "a significant six-figure sum", was agreed without any admission of liability on behalf off Mr Stanek or the anaesthetist.

Mrs Neubold still has trouble speaking, finds it difficult to read a book and at 53 is cared for by her daughter and son-in-law in Spain.

Mr Stanek is known as one of the top surgeons in his field and also featured in Channel Five series Plastic Fantastic.
