ISOH in health and safety warning- 08/02/2008[top]

The Institution of Occupational Safety and Health (ISOH) has warned employers that they must be sure of complying with the guidance of the Health and Safety Executive (HSE) when the Manslaughter and Corporate Homicide Act comes into force in April this year.

In the wake of the forthcoming Act, employers will be under more pressure than ever to place importance on good practice and put health and safety measures on top of their agendas.

Richard Jones, policy and technical director for the IOSH, said: 'All significant risk areas must be effectively managed, including for example, occupational road risk, workplace transport and working from height.

"Employers should also have access to competent health and safety assistance - someone with the right knowledge, skills and experience to help them - ideally one of their own employees."

ISOH and HSE issue advice on health and safety at work to Small to Medium Enterprises (SME) which includes guidance on directors' duties.
