Postwoman claiming compensation- 18/07/2008[top]
A postwoman who suffered a personal injury when she slipped and fell on a step outside a house is claiming for compensation from the homeowner.
Solicitors for the Royal Mail worker, wrote a letter to Joe Spink, suggesting that by failing to ensure his step was safe for the postwoman he was in breach of the Occupiers' Liability Act 1957.
The solicitors are said to be acting on instructions from the Communications Workers Union, which said it doesn't comment on specific claims.
Mr Spink said that the first he heard of the problem was when he received a letter from the solicitors.
The letter claims the postal worker's fall outside their Leeds home left her with a muscle tear and soft tissue injury.
He said: "I was flabbergasted when I read the letter. There are only five steps down from our door to the drive and no one's ever had a problem on them before in the 12 years we've lived here."
